As the coronavirus (also known as COVID-19) spread and entire countries shut down in a desperate bid to stop it, some of us felt growing unease, fear, impatience and frustration.
Is there nothing anyone can do to stop it? Does the battle seem hopeless?
Perhaps. But I found an Internet meme that explains exactly why it’s NOT hopeless, because it contrasts COVID-19 with one of the most remarkable people in the history of this planet.
You may scoff at what you’re about to read, but I’m hopeful that you’re open-minded enough to give my words mature, thoughtful consideration. It’s all I ask.
COVID-19 causes damage. But the man considered by many people to be the Son of God, Jesus of Nazareth, heals. How do I know this? Note these words by an ancient Hebrew writer: He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. You can read one example of a life healed here: https://wp.me/p2wzRb-5g.
Coronavirus creates fear. Jesus brings courage. Here’s evidence, written by an ancient Middle East prophet: Be determined and confident. Your God, the Lord himself, will be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you.
That courage made atheist Jennifer Fulwiller willing to re-examine her worldview after having her first child and, eventually, become a Jesus follower. I wrote a blog about her story: https://wp.me/p2wzRb-h4.
COVID-19 makes us weak. Jesus brings strength. The words passed along by an ancient Hebrew prophet: There’s no need to fear for I’m your God. I’ll give you strength. I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.
That strength helped me decide to follow Jesus even though it created a division with all my biological family, which wants nothing to do with Him.
Coronavirus separates us. Jesus wipes away divisions and brings people together. From a person Jesus trained to follow after Him: In Christ, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Greek, a slave or free, male or female. You are all the same in Christ Jesus.
COVID-19 creates chaos. Jesus gives us peace. The words of Jesus: Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give. I do not give it as the world does. So do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.
That peace helped a grieving mother to forgive her son’s killer. I wrote about it here: https://wp.me/p2wzRb-qB.
Coronavirus is temporary. Jesus is eternal. From an ancient Hebrew prophet: Earth and sky will wear out, but not you; you’ll stay the same, year after year; you’ll never fade, you’ll never wear out.
COVID-19 can lead to death. Jesus always leads to life. The words of Jesus: I came so people can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.
You can get in on everything Jesus brings to the world simply by making a serious decision to follow Him. Interested? Yes or no, post your thoughts below and let’s have a conversation.
Knowing that Jesus gives me life in the now and in eternity goes a long way in assuaging any fears I might harbor due to the spread of this virus. These are marvelous, contrasting points you bring up here, Frank. And I keep thinking, too, how many times Jesus told us to not be afraid. I’ll do just that!
Blessings!
Thanks, Martha. I was looking for a way to speak into this coronavirus pandemic; so glad Jesus showed me a way and gave me the words. 🙂
Thank you for this realization. I hope to overcome my fears of this matter. I must remind myself that this is the truth, the word of God. I stumble and forget a lot when it comes to fear. Praying for all living life, in our saviour’s name. Thank you 😊
Very glad I could help, Shane. 🙂
I would like to share this on my Twitter Page if it’s okay.
Absolutely! Thanks. 👊🏻😊
Before the COVID-19 became a household word, I heard a sermon that had one key point: “The antidote to fear is faith in God”. God created each of us, on purpose, and has His plan. That is for certain! It seems this is more relevant than ever, as it is so easy for us all to be griped with fear at a moment’s notice.
You nailed it, Paul. Thanks for reading and commenting. We’ll all get through this. 🙂
I have always had faith; being in Catholic school, I’ve clinged to the words of the Good News. Jesus Christ is the Almighty and I have seen several miracles and He won’t let us down. Thank you for sharing; God bless everyone in Jesus Christ our Lord.
He’s with us right now, Tammy. Thanks for reading and commenting. 🙂
Right on, Frank. Let’s pray the hurting world will come to know it can have that peace in the middle of the storm.
A *great* subject for prayer, Dan. Thanks. 🙂
You never mentioned, Jesus said in the last days there would be pestilence and plague. Is Corona virus one of them?
Hi Dan: Thanks for your comment. There’s no way to know if COVID-19 is a sign of the last days for the planet.
But please note, many people probably thought the “Black Plague” that killed at least 75 million in the 1300s was a sign of the last days.
In addition, I’m sure many also thought the Spanish Flu pandemic, which killed as many as 50 million in 1918-19, was a sign of the last days.
It occurs to me that spending a lot of time thinking and wondering about this doesn’t really accomplish much. Instead, I figure we should all think about our own lives and the lives of our loved ones. What will happen to us and them when this life is over and it’s time to somehow explain away all the wrong things we’ve done and the right things we’ve failed to do? How will we accomplish this – and meet God’s standard of perfection in order to spend eternity with Him in Heaven – without the atoning sacrifice of Jesus of Nazareth?
This flu virus has been exaggerated, lied about, testing is 95% false positives. The makers of the testing kits say so. All deaths a covid-related death. Remember this, from the beginning it was propagated by FEAR. Fear is the virus. Nothing to fear but fear itself. Fear makes everything blow up out of proportion. False Evidence Appearing Real is the acronymn.
This flu season took less lives than any other in the last 10 years. The Deep State, Deep Church, Cabal, New World Order satanists created this and sold this lie – right from Communist China dictators.
So now just take a moment, close your eyes, think about life when it was good, peaceful, everyone out and about smiling, talking, hugging, children in school with friends next to them, playing in the playground, no soical distancing, no contact tracing, no forced vaccines, etc. A heavenly vision. The world will rejoice when this is over. Trust the plan. This is Biblical.
You make a good point about fear, Marion. In ancient writings and original source documents about Jesus’ physical life on earth, God constantly tells us not to imprison ourselves in a world of fear. That was one of the main points of the blog.
Thank you. I needed to read that; it made me feel better.
I’m very glad you found the blog helpful, Sandra. And thanks for letting me know. Much appreciated. 🙂
